Let's pray for peace in Middle East

Israel and Hamas officially agreed to a cease-fire last Wednesday evening, ending the fiercest fighting between them in nearly four years. Now they are negotiating a truce. Hamas wants Israel to end it's Gaza blockade even though many restrictions had previously been lifted.

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Dan Gordan says Hamas is fighting for Israel's extermination. Just hours before the cease-fire was declared, terrorists exploded a bomb on a Tel Aviv bus, wounding dozens and seeming to drive the war to a new level. Israeli security forces said they detained more than 50 terrorist operatives in the West Bank, including Hamas officials.

The Bible teaches us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. It also teaches us to love our neighbors, but Jesus adds more: "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." Matt. 5:44,45

When we hear news of wars between the Holy Land and its' enemies, let us support Israel with prayers but let us not forget to ask for God's mercy and love upon its' persecutors too.
